FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: We will meet regardless of weather! Here at Forest Kids we believe the "bad" weather days can provide some of the most interesting and creative learning outcomes and explorations. Students will all be provided with a rain suit and will be given detailed lists of other weather-appropriate clothing and gear.
Please see here for our inclement weather policy:
Q: Where is the bathroom?
A: We have a composting toilet station with a privacy tent for when we are exploring around our base location. Children will be encouraged to use "nature's potty" on hikes. All children must be fully potty trained (but we understand accidents happen!).
Q: What is the location like?
A: We are located on a private 22 acre lot. The area includes fields, forests, and a pond. We are a private home location and will use the inside of the house only in extreme or dangerous weather situations. Parents are welcome and encouraged to tour the location prior to enrolling their child. Please contact us to schedule your tour!
Q: Do you provide lunch or snack?
A: Parents will be asked to provide a solid snack for their child each day. Please remember that you kids will be exerting lots of energy outside and need plenty of fuel to make it through the morning. Children should also bring a water bottle each day.
Q: What is your ratio and licensing?
A: We are a 1:4 ratio. Currently North Carolina does not license outdoor childcare. Due to this, we are limited to a four hour timeframe.
Q: Will ages be divided?
A: No, we will all be learning and exploring together. Similar to a Montessori or Reggio Emilia philosophy of learning, we believe kids can benefit greatly by being with children in wider age ranges. Please reach out with any questions or concerns regarding this!
Q: Do you have any animals on site?
A: We have chickens that children will be taught how to check on and collect eggs. Safety and cleanliness is our priority and children will always practice thorough hand washing after helping with the chickens.
Q: How do you communicate with parents?
A: We use the app "Brightwheel" for all communications, as well as pictures throughout your childs morning.
